good citizen dog scheme

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme is the largest dog training scheme in the UK. Its aim is to promote responsible dog ownership and in turn, enhance our relationship with our pets and to make the community aware of the benefits associated with dog ownership.

Dogs and handlers are examined by a certified Kennel Club examiner. Handlers must demonstrate that they are aware of their responsibilities as a dog owner and that they take care of their dog, both of which are set out in the Kennel Club’s publication:

The scheme offers four levels of qualification and handlers and dogs must demonstrate that they can complete the required exercises at each level:

  1. Puppy foundation
  2. Bronze
  3. Silver
  4. Gold

The Sutton Coldfield & District Dog Training Club arranges examination days for members at bronze, silver and gold levels twice yearly. Entry is free for Club members and successful dogs and handlers receive a Kennel Club certificate and rosette.
